On 18–19 April 2013, an international discussion forum Agroforum Balticum – Food and Agricultural Potential of the European Region, organised by the Estonian University of Life Sciences and the Saint Petersburg State Agrarian University in cooperation with the Estonian Ministry of Agriculture and the FAO, took place in Tartu, Estonia.

Addressing the Parliament of Estonia, Helir-Valdor Seeder, the Minister of Agriculture, told that Estonia must ask itself where is the balance between industrial production and traditional family farms and how to maintain food production and the more purposeful use of land resources.

On 20 June, Mr. Peeter Seestrand, Deputy Secretary General of the Ministry of Agriculture of Estonia,  and Mr. Konstantine Kobaxidze, Deputy Minister of Agriculture of Georgia, signed a bilateral cooperation programme for the period 2012–2014.

The European Parliament is ready to consider the suggestion by the Baltic States regarding the harmonisation of agricultural direct support and make a corresponding proposal in their June report.

The Minister of Agriculture Helir-Valdor Seeder is participating today at the FAO Regional Conference for Europe in Baku and will give a speech there.
