Deputy Secretary General for Foreign Affairs and Development Peeter Seestrand
Peeter Seestrand has been the Acting Deputy Secretary General for Foreign Affairs and Development since 15 October 2007. He manages the work of both the European Union and Foreign Affairs Department as well as the Research and Development Department. Peeter Seestrand graduated from the Estonian University of Agriculture in 1993 as an agronomist. From 1994–1995, he educated himself further in the field of horticulture and business in the USA. He has been in training in Brussels, the European Commission in 1996 and has participated in training sessions taking place in New-Zealand, Great Britain, Germany, Spain, France, Belgium, Finland, Sweden and Denmark. Peeter Seestrand has worked as a scientist in the Estonian Research Institute of Agriculture and Land Improvement. In 1995, he started working for the Ministry of Agriculture as Head of the EU Affairs Bureau of the Foreign Affairs Department. During 1997–2001, he worked in Brussels at the Permanent Representation of Estonia to the European Union as a representative of the Ministry of Agriculture and during 2003–2007, as the Head of the Unit of Agriculture. In 2002–2003, he worked as the Acting Head of Public and Foreign Affairs Department.
