OECD
The Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) is acting mainly as an expert organization and intergovernmental idea exchange forum, supporting the Member State’s decision making regarding economic and structural policies. The analysis of economic and structural policies forms the traditionally strong sides of the organization and bigger part of the organization’s work is formed by Member States´ economic policy research. Estonia should become a member of the organization in 2010. OECD analysis and discussions help along the preparation of decision making in Estonia and give an external expert assessment on how the existing policies or structures could be further developed in the governance of the Ministry of Agriculture. Since agriculture is one of the biggest domains of OECD, the membership in the organization offers Estonia the possibility to better develop our positions and have tighter cooperation with other Member States and also, nationally, with the representatives of different administrative fields. Also, since OECD studies and recommendations have a direct, as well as indirect influence on the Common Agricultural Policy of the European Union and therefore, also on Estonian agriculture, it is important to be a participant in OECD’s work. Sending our agricultural expert as a representative to the organization in Paris (in 2011) will definitely help to better implement the organization’s analysis in Estonia and enable to improve bilateral relations with one of the most important countries of agriculture in Europe, France.
