The Minister of Agriculture met with farmers´ representatives in Jäneda

26.07.2010

The Minister of Agriculture, Helir-Valdor Seeder assured today the farmers´ representatives at a meeting, which took place in course of Jäneda Farmers Days that active preparatory work has been started on the future of the Common Agricultural Policy. In order to have beneficial decisions for Estonia, the representatives of the republic must work towards achieving that target already today.

“Estonia’s definite position is that the CAP and especially direct payment system has to become more fair to new Member States (MS), including Estonia, “stressed the minister. Estonia’s position has also found support by the key player of the EU Common Agricultural Policy, Germany.

„The target is to harmonize per-hectare payments between MS, “explained Seeder during the meeting in Jäneda, which theme this time was „The Common Agricultural Policy 2013+. “

Estonia believes that CAP must remain a common policy of Europe also in the future.

The Estonian Farmers Days taking place in Jäneda today and tomorrow are being held already for the 19th time. Traditionally, the Estonian Farmer’s Association honors best farms in three categories. The general winners of this year’s competition were Taavi Serva and Gaile Tammemägi from Väikemetsa farm in Võrumaa, Sõmerpalu parish.
