Estonian Rural Development Plan (ERDP) 2007-2013

The Estonian Rural Development Plan (ERDP) 2007-2013 has several aims:

  • encourage competitiveness of the agricultural and forestry sector
  • improve the environment and the countryside
  • address the quality of life in rural areas and diversify national rural economy

All support measures within the framework of the Estonian rural development plan targeted toward reaching these aims must take into account the specific characteristics of Estonian rural life.

According to the 2007–2013 development plan, support for rural development is divided into four areas:

  • competitiveness of agriculture, private forestry and food industry;
  • maintenance of agricultural environment and landscape;
  • off-farm entrepreneurship in rural areas and village life;
  • local initiative (LEADER).

In the 2007-2013 programming period, ERDP will provide approximately 935 million euros of public sector funds for supporting Estonian agriculture and rural areas.

Estonian Rural Development Plan 2007-2013 received European Commission's final approval on 20 November 2007.
