The Ministry’s area of government includes three governmental authorities, threeadministered state authorities and in addition to those, four legal persons – two public enterprises and two public foundations. The power of the authorities in carrying out tasks under the Ministry’s area of government have been established in their statutes.
Agricultural Registers and Information Board (ARIB)
The Agricultural Registers and Information Board organises the award of national grants and the European Union agricultural and rural life development grants, the Fisheries Fund grants and market management grants. Additionally, the ARIB keeps national agricultural registries and other databases and processes and analyses the collected data.
Veterinary and Food Board (VFB)
The Veterinary and Food Board conducts state supervision and applies enforcement by the state in the areas of veterinary practices, feed hygiene, food safety, farm animal breeding, market management and organic agriculture.
The Agricultural Board conducts state supervision and applies enforcement by the state in the areas of land improvement, crop protection, plant health, plant variety protection, seed and plant propagating material, organic farming, genetically modified crop management, fertilisers and gardening products.
Veterinary and Food Laboratory (VFL)
The Veterinary and Food Laboratory carries out laboratory research to diagnose animal diseases and tests to control the safety and quality of food, water, feed and alcohol and performs the duties of the national reference laboratory and the authorised laboratory.
Agricultural Research Centre
The Centre performs national registration and economic testing of varieties, follow-up testing of seed lots, carries out laboratory analyses of seeds, determines plant protection product residues and contaminants levels in plant and animal products and in the soil, analyses the test samples taken from the plant protection products, fertilisers, feed and food.
Animal Recording Centre
The Centre is engaged in carrying out the performance testing of farm animals and assessing their genetic value, as well as independently controlling milk quality.
Rural Economy Research Centre
The Centre collects, processes and analyses the data necessary for the analysis of the farmers’ economic activities of the Farm Accountancy Data Network (FADN), prepares contribution margin accountings, and performs the duties of the body, which provides the advisors to the agricultural sector with professional qualification.
Estonian Crop Research Institute
The Institute is engaged in applied and fundamental research, makes agri-meteorological monitoring and forecasts, ensures the preservation breeding and preservation and research of genetic resources of the varieties, breeds new varieties and acts as a seed centre, offers research support to the advisory system, for legislative process and state supervision.
Estonian Agricultural Museum
The museum's main task is to perpetuate the Estonian rural culture, agricultural production, ownership, agricultural education and research, scientifically examine the collected materials, and exhibit and mediate it to the public.
Estonian Dairy Museum
The museum collects, researches, and preserves the materials reflecting the Estonian dairy history, mediates it to the public, and introduces the milk and dairy products manufactured in Estonia to the general public.
The Farm Museum of Carl Robert Jakobson
The museum perpetuates the subject matters characterising the life and activities of Carl Robert Jakobson and his family, collects and preserves materials of cultural value that reflect the farming and living environment of the second half of the 19th century and mediates it to the public.
Rural Development Foundation
The purpose of the Foundation is to support the economic development of the Estonian countryside through the implementation of the indicative programmes conducive to entrepreneurship.
