Changes of food products retail prices in January

The purchasing price of milk increased 31% with one year (as of December). In comparison to December 2008, the price has increased 17%.

 

The purchasing price of wheat (for food) has increased 86% with a year. In comparison with the price two years ago, growth has been 84%. The purchasing price of rye (for food) has increased 142% with one year, 79% in two year comparison. Pork purchasing price has increased 6,5% with one year.

According to the Estonian Institute of Economic Research, the price increase of food products slowed down in January, many items became cheaper when compared to the previous month (milk, sour cream, coffee cream, minced meat, broiler, frankfurters, chicken eggs, potato, carrot, cucumber and tomato). With the last month, the prices of cabbage (+30,2%), cooled trout (+30,2%), sugar (+6,6%), boned pork roast (+6,4%) and butter (+3,3%) increased. The prices of dark and white bread increased less than one percent. From milk products, the price of butter increased, prices of other products decreased. Production prices of vegetables and potatoes increased in January, fresh cucumber became cheaper. In supermarkets, vegetables became cheaper, only fresh cabbage (+30,2%) became more expensive. Also unpacked potatoes (-4,2%) and fresh cucumber (-23,5%) became cheaper.

Compared to January last year, the price of milk products, dark and white bread, vegetables and fish has increased considerably for the consumers. Milk in a plastic package (+43,4%), coffee cream (+34,4%), sour cream (+33,1%), kefir (+30,4%), cheese (+17,1%) and butter (+16,2%) were more expensive than a year ago. From meat and meat products, the price of pork decreased, but the prices of beef, broiler, minced meat and frankfurters increased. In yearly comparison, the price of white bread in supermarkets increased +7,1% and dark bread +4,5%. In the supermarkets, prices of all vegetables increased with the last year, including cabbage (+231,6%), fresh cucumber (+18,4%), imported tomato (+16,7%) and carrot (+14,4%). The price of unpacked potato increased (+44,9%) with one year.

The average retail price of motor fuel (95E) in automated gas stations was 1.20 €/l in January, which was 14% higher than a year ago. The price of diesel fuels increased 16% with the last year.
