First quarter successful for the dairy sector

During the first quarter of this year, compared with the same period of the previous year, milk production increased by 10%. Both the number and productivity of cows have gone up as becomes evident from the overview of the first quarter in the sector of agriculture.

In a year, purchase of milk increased by 9%. The purchase price of milk, 400 EUR/t, was 18% higher than during the first quarter of the last year.
In the sector of meat, purchase prices were a bit lower (3% for beef and 2% for pigmeat) than during the same period of the last year. At the same time, compared with the same period of the last year, within the first quarter, the production of eggs increased by 18% and the production of slaughter animals and poultry by 4%.
Comparison of the first quarter data of the last years indicates that three years running both beef and poultry production  increased. The poultry production of the first quarter of this year even set up a record, surpassing the results of all the quarters of the last five years. However, during the first quarter, sheep- and goatmeat production was the lowest of the last five years as the purchase of sheep decreased considerably.
During the first quarter, compared with the same period of the previous year, the producer price index of agricultural products increased by 4,4% and the purchase price index of means of production fell by 3,2%.
