Melioration experts from 23 countries meet in Estonia

Tomorrow,on 9 July, at 1 p.m., the 10th International Drainage Workshop will continue in Tallinn, Reval Hotel Olümpia. The conference began in Finland.

 


In the sessions of the conference, which previously took place in Finland, agricultural drainage and environmental differences in agricultural policy (usage of nitrates, heavy metals etc), drainage planning in heavy soils, agricultural water usage, methods and techologies were discussed. The topics during the sessions held in Estonia are land improvement, river cleaning, extreme weather conditions, drainage, prevention of flooding and land usage.

There are about 150 scientists and specialists on land improvement and water management from 23 countries. In addition to Europe, some more distant countries represented in the conference are: Australia, USA, Canada, Malaysia, Egypt, Iran and others.

Also, the President of the International Commission on Irrigation and Drainage (ICID), Mr. Peter Lee from England will be participating.
The conference is organised in the framework of ICID to which Estonia is a member to since 2000.
