UN international natural fibers year begins on the background of Estonian textiles

On January 22, UN International Year of Natural Fibers was opened in Rome, at the headquarters of UN Food and Agriculture Organization FAO. This event is celebrated through an exhibition of Estonian textiles made of natural fibers. The exhibition shows woolen, cotton, paper and peat fiber works by Maasike Maasik, Liisa Kallam, Aune Taamal, Tiina Puhkan and Elna Kaasik.


The UN natural fibers year tries to draw attention to renewable materials from agriculture. Over 30 million tons of natural fibers are produced in the world every year, which is used for clothes, furniture, building, car industry and elsewhere. The exhibition of Estonian textile artists is open until January 2010.
