Minister of Regional Affairs Madis Kallas

Minister of Regional Affairs of the Republic of Estonia from 17 April 2023. He is a member of the Social Democratic Party.

Madis Kallas was born on 22 April 1981. He is married and a father of three. In 2022, Kallas joined the Social Democratic Party.

Employment history and career

 
  • In 2022–2023, he was the Minister of the Environment.
  • In 2017–2020 and 2021–2022, he was the Mayor of the Saaremaa rural municipality.
  • In 2020–2021, he worked as a project manager at the Estonian Health Insurance Fund and the Ministry of Social Affairs (COVID-19).
  • In 2015–2017, he was the Mayor of Kuressaare City.
  • In 2013–2015, he was a Deputy Mayor of Kuressaare City.
  • In 2010–2013, he worked as an adviser at the Saare County Government.

Education

Madis Kallas graduated from Tallinn University in 2004 with a degree in physical education. He speaks Estonian as native language, plus English as a foreign language.

Other

Kallas is a member of the Management Board of the Estonian Athletic Association. He was engaged in combined track and field as a professional athlete and became the Estonian champion on several occasions.
