Plant production and plant health

Fields related to cropping include the coexistence requirements of seed and vegetative propagation, fertilisers, plant health and protection, plant variety protection, and genetically modified (GMO) and non-GMO crops.

The Ministry of Regional Affairs and Agriculture works hard to ensure that high-quality and environmentally safe fertilisers and plant protection products, high-quality seeds and propagating material, as well as healthy plants free from pests are produced and used in Estonia.

The objective of the Ministry of Regional Affairs and Agriculture is to ensure a safe and orderly crop production and living environment. To achieve this goal, the Ministry develops national legislation, development plans and measures, as well as participates in the development of the European Union legislation and organises their implementation in Estonia.

The Ministry also cooperates with international organisations in the field – the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), the European and Mediterranean Plant Protection Organisation (EPPO), the Plant Protection Convention (IPPC) and the International Union for the Protection of New Varieties of Plants (UPOV).
